CURRENT ARTIST

Teresa M. Heistand is a graphic artist and instructor from Pittsburgh, PA and she is the originator of The 5 Dollar Art Project idea. She has a degree in Film Studies from the University of Pittsburgh ( Main campus ) and is currently employed as a Systems Programmer at Bunting Graphics, Inc. in Verona, PA.

She is an Associate Adjunct Professor at Pittsburgh Filmmakers and has taught at its sister organization, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

Teresa chose the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (N.O.C.C.) as her charity for this chapter.

Ovarian cancer is often referred to as the "disease that whispers." Because the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer have been described as vague or silent, only around 10 percent of ovarian cancer is found in the early stages. As a result, almost 70 percent of women with ovarian cancer are not diagnosed until the disease is advanced in stage, making it the most deadly of all cancers of the female reproductive system.
